Letter of Interest

The Letter of Interest is a key component of your application package. We encourage you to write a letter that highlights your leadership capacity through clear examples, achievements, and goals. Be sure to illustrate how your experiences have helped you develop and demonstrate your leadership skills.

Your letter should be written in a direct and professional style, and include the following:

  • A detailed overview of your most significant leadership achievements as a Saint Mary's student.
  • Specific examples and discussion showing how these achievements and leadership roles demonstrate your impact - whether on an individual, local, or global level.
  • An explanation of how these experiences connect to your current short-term and long-term goals.

*All experiences referenced in your Letter of Interest must also be documented and verified on your Experience Record in order to be considered as part of your application.

Letter of Recommendation

A single letter of reference must be included as part of your application. This letter should be between one and two pages in length and must be written by your supervisor who has overseen your leadership experiences.

The letter should provide a clear and detailed account of your experiences, outlining your specific responsibilities and contributions. The letter should also describe the leadership qualities you exhibited and provide examples of how you demonstrated these in practice.

Additionally, the letter should highlight any measurable impact or outcomes resulting from your leadership, as well as any personal or professional attributes that distinguish you as an emerging leader. The goal is to offer a comprehensive picture of your capabilities, character, and potential for continued growth in leadership roles.
